The Tragedy of Lord George is an interesting-sounding, aristocratic and at the same time a little grotesque masculine woody-aromatic perfume, released in 2016 by the British perfume brand Penhaligon's as part of the Portraits collection. Each of the perfumes in the collection is dedicated to a specific historical person, but at the same time it emphasizes not so much the high social status and significance of his person as his weaknesses, which make his image much more alive and human. The perfume called "Lord George's Tragedy" tells the story of the wealthy and respected Lord George. He seemed to embody the noblest values of the English aristocracy - virtue, respect, devotion and loyalty to the queen. But… the flesh is weak and people's rumors gossip with might and main on the "exploits" of Lord George. The perfume dedicated to him has a deep, classic sound with hidden secrets. In it, deep, velvety-spicy woody notes seem to insist on the spicy-alcoholic accents of brandy, the sweetish-smoky smell of exotic tonka beans and aristocratic amber. However, the presence of unexpected soapy notes sets the accents in the composition in a completely different way, making the perfume original, unexpected and even bizarre.
